Overview
We are seeking an experienced and driven Laboratory Manager to lead both the Microbiology and Chemistry Laboratories within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This is a key leadership position responsible for driving operational excellence, ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards, and developing a high-performing team.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of Laboratory Technicians across microbiology and chemistry functions.
- Plan and coordinate daily analytical workloads, ensuring testing and reporting align with business priorities.
- Monitor performance against KPIs and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
- Optimise laboratory schedules and staffing to ensure efficient operations.
- Support quality assurance by liaising with the Quality Manager and operational teams on test results and trends.
- Promote team development through coaching, performance reviews, and training.
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness of data entry in LIMS and other systems.
- Oversee proficiency testing, validation of new methods, and laboratory infrastructure projects.
- Maintain full compliance with internal quality systems, food safety standards, and legislative requirements.
- Collaborate with HR and other departments on people management and operational alignment.
Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a laboratory management or supervisory role within food, healthcare, or pharmaceutical manufacturing.
- Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Biotechnology, or a related discipline.
- Strong understanding of quality management systems and food safety legislation.
- Proven ability to deliver against KPIs and operational targets.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with SAP and LIMS is highly desirable.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational abilities.
