Clinical Nurse Manager
The Clinical Coordinator is responsible for providing leadership, direction, and oversight of daily activities within the unit, ensuring the highest standard of patient care, staff support, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities & Deliverables

Coordinate and oversee daily patient care operations within the unit.

Analyse workloads and staff skill requirements to meet patient needs.
-
Assess staff competencies and allocate patient care assignments accordingly.
-
Delegate responsibilities appropriately, ensuring compliance with legal, professional, and departmental standards.
-
Maintain clear and timely communication with the Clinical Nurse Manager regarding unit needs, incidents, or issues.
-
Act as a clinical resource and provide direct patient care when required.
-
Support and participate in patient and family education initiatives.
-
Perform IV cannulation and venepuncture as required.
-
Promote and implement evidence-based practice.
-
Identify and monitor internal controls to ensure compliance and quality assurance.

Clinical Responsibilities
-
Adhere to The Professional Scope of Practice Framework (NMBI, 2000).

Identify and escalate issues promptly to the Nurse Manager.

Demonstrate knowledge and compliance with hospital policies and guidelines.

Ensure accurate and timely completion of all documentation.
-
Manage complaints effectively and participate in risk management processes.
-
Support interdisciplinary communication and teamwork.
-
Ensure efficient use of resources (pay and non-pay).
-
Actively participate in ward meetings, forums, and communication processes.
-
Provide clinical support to staff as required.

Leadership Responsibilities

Assign patient loads considering staff skill mix.

Oversee the patient care activities of Staff Nurses, HCAs, and unit administrative staff.

Model and develop leadership skills to support and inspire staff.
-
Attend bed meetings and other relevant forums as required.

Develop and manage staff rosters for the unit.
-
Contribute to quality initiatives and audits.

Attend mandatory education sessions and maintain a professional portfolio.

Represent the nursing profession with professionalism.

Identify and contribute to nursing research opportunities.

Support patient and family education during care.

Participate in study days and professional development courses.

Act as a preceptor/supervisor for students and newly appointed staff.

Develop teaching skills and support student orientation and clinical learning.

Provide feedback for student proficiency assessments.

Contribute to identifying training needs within the clinical area.

Support induction and learning opportunities for new nursing and support staff.

Person Specification
Qualifications
-
NMBI Registered General Nurse in good standing.
Experience
-
Minimum of 3 years’ clinical experience (preferably in an acute hospital setting).
-
Experience in leadership, staff support, and teaching desirable.
Skills & Competencies

Strong leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
-
Strong planning, organising, and time management abilities.

Knowledge of current clinical practices, hospital policies, and national strategies relevant to nursing care.
