Overview of role
UPMC Aut Even are recruiting a Clinical Specialist CT Radiographer on an 11‑month fixed term contract to support operational management of the CT service. The role works closely with and under the direct guidance of the Radiology Services Manager, providing a quality radiology service to all patients attending Aut Even in line with professional best practice and hospital guidelines, policies and procedures.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Share in‑depth knowledge from postgraduate training in all aspects of CT radiology.
- Understand, implement and support documentation to manage legislation related to ionising radiation in CT.
- Continually develop the CT service and oversee training, development and competence of the CT team.
- Liaise closely with the Radiology Services Manager, Clinical Services Representatives and Radiologists to develop and maintain an efficient cross‑site service for stakeholders.
- Facilitate optimisation of patient pathways in conjunction with the Radiology Management team.
- Participate in all clinical components of the roster and consistently demonstrate leadership skills aligned with Hospital Values.
- Deputise for the RSM as required and support the management and development of the Radiology department to provide a quality service by utilising resources efficiently and safely.
- Manage the day‑to‑day provision of the CT service, adapt staffing and service provision to short‑notice workload demands, and promote the department with a focus on quality of service.
- Supervise and train Radiographers in CT scanning, ensure safe working practices (SI 30/IRR19) and act as a liaison between clinical leads and teams to improve image quality.
- Maintain records for equipment performance, staff training, competence, budgetary control, and activity tracking.
- Assist in recruitment of new staff, respond to patient or carer complaints, participate in departmental audits, and contribute to the overall business plan for the Radiology department.
- Engage in governance, risk management, incident investigation, and Human Resources policy implementation.
- Maintain personal continued professional development and adhere to the CORU Code of Conduct.
- Communicate effectively with the Radiology Services Manager and staff regarding significant changes, referral patterns, workload, waiting times, KPI targets, and development.
- Support team building and training activities, notify the manager of leave, and maintain a learning‑conducive environment.
Qualifications & Experience
- BSc Diagnostic Radiography.
- Qualification recognised and validated by the Irish Institute of Radiography.
- CORU registration.
- Minimum 6 years post‑graduation clinical experience.
- Minimum 3 years’ senior level experience in a CT department.
- Post‑graduate qualification desirable.
- Experience in a hospital environment essential.
- Up‑to‑date BLS certification.
