The Team
The Chief Governance Office is a directorate within the Group with a mission of ensuring that the highest standards of excellence are maintained in the delivery of risk management, governance, legal, compliance and company secretarial activities and initiatives.
Job Purpose
The role holder will direct EirGrid’s compliance programme, overseeing the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of compliance frameworks that ensure alignment with regulatory, legal, and industry standards. They will be responsible for embedding a culture of integrity and accountability across the organisation, enabling effective governance and risk management through proactive compliance oversight. Leading a team of compliance professionals, the role holder will work closely with leadership, management, and cross‑functional teams to integrate compliance into strategic planning, operational processes, and decision‑making. They will act as a liaison with regulatory bodies, ensuring EirGrid maintains a strong compliance posture and responds effectively to evolving regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic direction and oversight for the compliance programme, ensuring alignment with organisational priorities and regulatory expectations.
- Lead, develop, and empower a high‑performing compliance team, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee EirGrid’s compliance with all applicable regulatory, statutory, and industry requirements, including energy sector regulations, GDPR, and conduct obligations.
- Lead the organisation’s response to regulatory change, ensuring timely impact assessments, stakeholder engagement, and implementation of required actions.
- Oversee the design, implementation, and continuous enhancement of enterprise‑wide compliance frameworks, policies, and procedures.
- Ensure material compliance risks are proactively identified, assessed, and mitigated across all directorates and business functions.
- Monitor the development and delivery of ongoing information governance compliance programme activities.
- Champion a culture of integrity and compliance across the organisation through targeted training, leadership engagement, and strategic communications.
- Deliver authoritative compliance reporting to executive and board level governance bodies, translating multifaceted compliance risk information into actionable insights.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- Over ten years of experience in compliance, including considerable time in leadership or senior advisory roles.
- Qualified to degree level and/or professional qualification in a relevant discipline.
- Proven record of accomplishment in designing, implementing and/or overseeing compliance frameworks, programmes, and processes.
- Strong analytical, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Skilled in stakeholder management and influencing at all levels, including Executive and Leadership level, while maintaining strong credibility and relationships.
- Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
- Experience in regulated environments or the energy sector is advantageous but not essential.
