Overview

Location: Beaumont Hospital, Dublin 9

Reports to: Colette Murray, Clinical Coding Manager

Salary: Appointment will be made on Grade 3 (€30,810 –€47,948 LSI) at a point in line with Government pay policy.

Hours of work: Full-Time 35 hours per week

Closing Date: 12 noon on 11/4/2025

Position Summary:

Hospital In-Patient Enquiry Scheme (HIPE)

HIPE is a health information system designed to collect demographic, clinical and administrative information on discharges and deaths from acute hospitals nationally. HIPE is the only source of morbidity statistics available nationally for acute hospital services in Ireland. All acute public hospitals participate in HIPE reporting on over 1.5 million records annually.

The position holder will be responsible for ensuring that the Clinical Coders have the healthcare records necessary to perform the collection of data as above. (See below for Principal Duties & Responsibilities)

Responsibilities

1. Tracking and returning charts to Medical Records.
2. Retrieving missing charts for all coders on an ongoing/daily basis, based on lists generated by coders.
3. Collecting charts from Day Onc, CKB, DFU, CDW, Day ward and general wards on a daily basis.
4. Helping in the overall smooth running of a busy office.
5. Returning rip charts to DFU on Fridays.
6. Other general office duties as directed by the Clinical Coding Manager.

Qualifications

In exercise of the powers conferred on me by Section 22 of the Health Act 2004, I hereby approve the qualifications for the appointment and continuing as Clerical Officer, Grade III in the HSE.

1. Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc:

1. Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:

1. Obtained at least grade D (or pass) in Higher or Ordinary Level in five subjects from the approved list of subjects in the Department of Education established Leaving Certificate Examination or Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme or Leaving Certificate Applied.
2. Or passed an examination of at least equivalent standard.
3. Or satisfactory relevant experience which encompasses demonstrable equivalent skills.

3. And candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability, including a high standard of suitability and administrative ability, for the proper discharge of the office.

3. Age: Age restriction shall only apply to a candidate where s/he is not classified as a new entrant. A candidate who is not classified as a new entrant must be under 65 years of age on the first day of the month in which the latest date for receiving completed application forms for the office occurs.
4. Health: Candidates for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
5. Character: Candidates for and any person holding the office must be of good character.

Desirable:

1. Qualifications: Leaving certificate or equivalent.
2. Good time management skills essential.
3. Excellent communicator.
4. Solid IT skills.
5. Excellent organisational skills and ability to work on own initiative and within a team.
