Research Assistant – Psychology Service
Research Assistant required for locum role to work as part of the Psychology team with the Irish Prison Service.
The IPS Psychology Service is in the process of making significant changes to treatments provided for those convicted of domestic violence. The publication of the National Strategy on Domestic, Sexual and Gender-based Violence has led to the development of a model of intervention for people with a history of domestic violence.
The successful candidate will support the initiation and ongoing development of data collection, specifically related to identification of people in custody with a history of domestic violence and the effectiveness of the updated programme in terms of psychological change and risk reduction.
The Research Assistant will be supervised by the Research Development and Evaluation (RDE) Manager in the Irish Prison Service.
As a Research Assistant, the role will involve:
1. Plan, co-ordinate and implement a viability study for a potential research project on the development of a new model of programmes for the treatment for those convicted of domestic violence in the IPS;
2. Manage own personal and research resources appropriately;
3. Keep records as directed and in line with IPS/UCD policy as appropriate.
The position is likely to be of interest to students interested in further developing their academic skills with a view to a career in Forensic, Counselling or Clinical Psychology.
Essential Requirements:
1. A) (i) Have a Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI) accredited qualification at not less than a Level 8 at 2.1 honours grade on the QQI qualifications framework in which psychology was a major subject, (ii) A Level 8 honours degree in another subject (2.1 or higher) together with an accredited conversion qualification at a minimum of (2.1) as conferring eligibility for graduate membership of the PSI,
2. OR
3. (iii) A qualification equivalent to the above accredited by the BPS for graduate membership of the BPS,
4. AND
5. B) Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability, including a high standard of suitability and administrative/research ability, for the proper discharge of the duties of the post.
