The National Maternity Hospital is seeking applications from suitability qualified persons for the post of Fellow in Perinatal Genetics and Genomics. The ideal candidate will hold a Medical degree and must have completed their training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology or be on the Obstetrics and Gynaecology training programme. An MSc along with demonstrable evidence of an interest in genetics are desirable. This role will report to the Head of Department, Prenatal Clinical Genetics and Genomics. Skills and Abilities: phlebotomy, good communication skills, ability to work as part of an MDT and liaise with stakeholders in laboratories internationally with consultant support, competent with Excel, Desirable: ability to develop teaching material for SpR colleagues and other medical staff, to develop the database with support. Knowledge: basic knowledge of genetics and be willing to engage in structured teaching to learn more knowledge of MDT working including with Fetal medicine, recurrent miscarriage and neonatology. Responsibilities & Accountabilities(in no particular order of priority) Communicate with patients and families attending the service (face-to-face, phone, virtual platforms) Clinical:contribute to clinics including joint clinics with the consultant geneticist as well as with obstetricians in areas including fetal medicine, maternal medicine, recurrent miscarriage etc. Manage a clinical caseload. Communicate with colleagues in the Prenatal Genetics team and broader professional community: laboratory colleagues, regionally and internationally, along with other specialties at The National Maternity Hospital and all regions covered by the service. Educational Activities: Present findings of research, audit and clinical practice to large groups of staff or members of the public. Participate in writing for publication in medical/counselling/lay journals. Participate in the teaching of genetics to medical personnel, other health care professionals and members of the public. Prepare and present scientific articles in clinical and departmental journal clubs. Act as an educational resource for medical and other personnel attached to the clinical genetics team including student and trainee genetic counsellors. However the individual will not be the named mentor/supervisor of junior colleagues. Other: Work on the genetics department database and prepare cases for publication under the supervision of the clinical lead. Co-ordinate complex genetic testing in pregnancy including both known diagnoses and unknown diagnoses, under the supervision of the Clinical geneticist. To co-ordinate care of genetics patients attending NMH form other hospitals To co-ordinate samples and liaise with the relevant laboratories To competently complete genomic test requests and co-ordinate the testing process To complete letters to patients and other HCPs which will be co-signed with the clinical geneticist To follow-up on cases and ensure testing completed in a timely manner To contribute to development of the department through education and learning activities, database management and publications To collaborate the deep phenotyping clinics with Fetal medicine and take part in those To work with the fetal medicine team to organise interventions and scans for genetics patients Flexibility: This post requires a high level of flexibility to ensure the delivery of an effective and efficient service. Therefore the post holder will be required to demonstrate flexibility on occasion as and when required by their manager. Skills: IMC Registered Medical Degree Completed Obs/Gynae Training
