Position Description

Telecommunications are transforming our lives in the way we live and work and are essential to the remote management of systems and assets. ESB Networks Telecoms group has over 100 staff providing the critical operational telecom networks needed to deliver the communication systems required to control the distribution, transmission and generation systems.

Networks Telecoms deliver this by operating and managing the largest private telecommunications network in Ireland and are among a leading group of European utilities building our own private mobile network for operations. These initiatives are a critical part of our move to Smart Networks and the digitisation of ESB.

As a Telecoms Service & Deployment (TSD-Central Team) the successful candidate will play a key role in the deployment, operation, maintenance, and future growth of ESB's national telecommunications network.

Key Responsibilities

1. Deployment and integration of new communications infrastructure into the ESB telecoms network.
2. Responsible for ongoing support and maintenance of a wide variety of telecommunications equipment and infrastructure in ESB locations.
3. Prioritisation of faults and urgent tasks, also ensuring tasks are updated and completed in a safe and timely manner.
4. Coordination and management of third-party contractors and equipment partners.
5. Support and maintain DC and backup power systems.
6. Implement and support SCADA and Protection systems used to control the electricity network.
7. Proactively engage in a strong safety, quality, and high-performance team culture.
8. Project management support for telecommunications projects in ESB Networks, ESB Group and EirGrid.
9. Engagement and communication with various Networks Telecoms stakeholders in a professional manner.
10. Engage with training and development activities within the team or the wider Networks Telecoms business.
11. On-Call or Availability may be a feature of this role.

Experience & Qualifications

1. Either a 3rd Level qualification in an electrical/ telecommunications/ IT discipline or equivalent work experience from a trade background.
2. Have a safety focused approach to work.
3. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
4. Effective communication and organisational skills.
5. Accuracy, thoroughness, and attention to detail.
6. Adaptability and flexibility.
7. Full driving licence, travel will be a feature of this role.
8. Health & Safety qualification.
9. Experience working on electrical systems.
10. Experience with preparation of safety documentation.
11. Experience with stakeholder engagement.
12. Awareness of telecommunications technologies.
13. Familiarity with HV environments.
14. On-Call or Availability experience.

Location

ESB Networks Athlone. Flexible reporting location may be considered within the TSD Central region.

Reporting to

Telecoms Service & Deployment Central Team Manager, Networks Telecoms.
