Clinical Research Fellow INFANT Research Centre
2 days ago
12 Months, Specific Purpose, Whole-Time Post Position Summary INFANT is now accepting applications for a Clinical Research Fellow to work on the NEOLA 2 project. The Neola device provides a safe and non-invasive method to monitor the lungs of neonates in real-time. It uses a biomedical application of GASMAS technology (Gas in Scattering Media Absorption Spectroscopy). Small and lightweight emitter and detector probes are positioned on the infant's skin. Low-power near-infrared light is sent through the chest cavity, where a small portion of the light is absorbed by water vapor and oxygen gas molecules in the lungs. The emission of light is below the limits for Laser Class 1, i.e., it is completely eye-safe and skin-safe. Neola can register small changes related to lung volume and oxygen gas concentration. The results are displayed in real-time for continuous monitoring of the infant. It is also possible to obtain and study trends from monitoring history. Neola is intended for continuous, non-invasive monitoring of the lung function in neonatal patients. It is intended to be used by neonatal health care practitioners in professional health care facilities as an adjunct in patient assessment of pulmonary conditions where changes in lung volume and oxygen gas concentration are of clinical plan to enrol up to 50 term newborn infants who have transient tachypnea of the newborn. This position will incorporate clinical exposure and also will involve interacting with the Tyndal Institute at UCC. Project Title: Neola 2 Post Duration: 12 Months Salary: €65,889 - €71,796 p.a. IUA scale For an information package including further details of the post see Informal enquiries can be made in confidence to Prof. Eugene Dempsey Email: Applications must be submitted online via the University College Cork vacancy portal ( Queries relating to the online application process should be referred to quoting the job-title and project name.
