Job Role Overview

This role represents a unique opportunity for skilled professionals to contribute to a progressive Tusla service in Laois. The service delivers trauma-informed care models tailored to the needs of young people aged 13-17 years.

The team fosters positive attachments through relationship building, aiming to create a therapeutic environment that promotes the well-being of children and young people.

As a Social Care Worker, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team delivering comprehensive, holistic care to young people.

  • Participate in developing and implementing Care and Placement Plans, ensuring accurate recording practices.
  • Promote the rights and responsibilities of each child/young person within the Service.
  • Foster the physical, emotional, social, and religious welfare of each young person in care.
  • Encourage regular attendance at school, training centers, medical appointments, and other essential activities.
  • Manage personal documents, arrangements, information, and finances on behalf of the young person.
  • Liaise with parents, families, general services, and agencies on behalf of the young person.
  • Attend meetings related to the care and development of the young person.
  • Engage in age-appropriate play and activities with each child/young person within the Service.
  • Implement physical interventions according to local policies and procedures.
  • Promote children's participation in decision-making processes affecting their lives at individual and collective levels.
  • Prepare and provide nutritious meals in conjunction with the young people.
  • Undertake household management tasks, including budgeting, upkeep, and cleaning.
  • Attend team meetings and report to the Social Care Leader/Manager on matters impacting service delivery.
  • Submit regular written and verbal reports to the Social Care Leader/Manager on the progress of young people.
  • Ensure compliance with child protection procedures in line with designated officer responsibilities.
  • Maintain awareness of current legislation and professional childcare knowledge.
  • Engage in ongoing professional training and development.
  • Comply with and contribute to policy development, adhering to relevant legislation, regulations, and standards.
  • Develop a working knowledge of the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA).
Required Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidate should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with children, young people, and colleagues.

A background in social care or a related field is desirable, along with a commitment to delivering high-quality, trauma-informed care.

Candidates should be able to work effectively as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic environment.

A valid driving license and willingness to travel are advantageous, given the nature of the role.
