Project Director – Rail

This role is seeking an experienced Project Director to lead rail infrastructure projects across Ireland.

  • Lead the planning, design and delivery of major rail projects in Ireland, ensuring compliance with regulatory and safety standards.
  • Provide strategic direction and technical leadership for rail infrastructure, signalling, electrification and rolling stock projects.
  • Manage client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor to stakeholders, including government bodies, transport authorities and private sector clients.
  • Oversee multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Develop and implement project strategies that align with sustainability and carbon reduction goals in rail transport.
  • Lead business development initiatives, identifying new opportunities, preparing bids and securing contracts.
  • Manage budgets, timelines and resources to deliver projects on time and within financial constraints.
  • Ensure compliance with Irish and European rail regulations, health & safety standards and industry best practices.
  • Mentor junior staff, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous professional development.
Key Requirements:
  • A degree in Civil Engineering, Transport Engineering, Rail Systems Engineering or a related field.
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards it (preferred).
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in the rail industry, with a strong track record in project leadership and delivery.
  • In-depth knowledge of Irish rail infrastructure, policies and regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience working on major rail projects, including heavy rail, light rail, metro and high-speed rail.
  • Strong business development skills, with experience in client engagement and bid management.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in rail engineering software and project management tools.
