Exciting Road Safety and Construction Opportunity

This is an excellent chance to participate in a development program focused on road construction. As an Engineering Inspector I, you will complete classroom and hands-on training in preparation for the upcoming construction season.


The role involves working on various road construction projects across multiple departments during the construction season. Your key responsibilities will include conducting thorough inspections to ensure quality of work, maintaining accurate records subject to audits, and adhering to all standard inspection requirements.


In addition to classroom learning, the program includes job shadowing and rotations within the Construction, Permits, Traffic Safety, and Highway Maintenance departments. This will provide valuable opportunities to gain experience, develop new skills, and build a strong understanding of the industry.


Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required
  • Demonstrated basic math skills and proficiency with computer operations are essential
  • A willingness to learn and adapt to changing situations is necessary
  • A valid MI state driver's license is mandatory

This position requires regular and predictable onsite job attendance, including availability to work during hours of operation. You must have the energy, stamina, and flexibility to work overtime as required, which may involve weekends and/or extended periods.


Teamwork and Communication

You will work closely with a team environment and be expected to demonstrate strong communication skills (verbal and written). You will also be willing to accept feedback and direction as needed to enhance your knowledge of inspection standards.


Professional Image and Commitment

You will represent the organization in a professional and courteous manner to promote a positive image of the Road Commission. A minimum commitment of 12-18 months is required in this position, allowing you to gain valuable experience and contribute to the success of the team.
