Key Buyer Role

We are seeking a skilled and experienced buyer to join our trading team. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in category management and strategic sourcing.

Job Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing specific store categories, overseeing sales performance, margin optimization, budget adherence, and inventory management. They will also develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, ensuring alignment with key business departments.

The buyer will negotiate and manage supplier contracts, demonstrating sound commercial practices and ensuring favorable terms through effective joint business planning and long-term agreement negotiations.

They will identify, develop, and execute initiatives aimed at increasing ancillary income streams, enhancing overall profitability, and market presence.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage full category management for designated product areas.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective suppliers.
  • Negotiate and manage supplier contracts.
  • Identify and execute initiatives to increase ancillary income streams.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • At least 3 years of experience in buying with a demonstrable track record in category management and strategic sourcing.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Exceptional negotiation and vendor management skills.
  • Demonstrable track record in category management and strategic sourcing.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency in procurement software and tools; experience with ERP systems is a plus.

  • Microsoft office intermediate to advanced level in excel, PowerPoint & word.
  • SAP Experience, Power BI or equivalent beneficial.
  • Experience within a convenience FMCG retail environment advantageous.
  • Willingness to travel ad hoc if required and support out-of-hours content development as needed.
