Department: Microbiology Laboratory
Reports to: Chief Medical Scientist / Senior Medical Scientist
As a Medical Scientist in the Microbiology Department, you will be responsible for conducting scientific procedures and maintaining the highest professional standards. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Responsibilities- To report directly to the Chief Medical Scientist and maintain regular contact with senior staff members.
- To perform scientific procedures to the highest professional standard as determined by the Consultant in Charge/Chief Medical Scientist
- To participate in training and supervision of new and existing staff and students as required
- To actively engage in continuing professional development (CPD) programs and maintain up-to-date knowledge on relevant topics
- To cooperate with colleagues to evaluate equipment, consumables, reagents, and processes
- To contribute to research projects and ensure compliance with national and international guidelines and standards
- To participate in maintaining and developing quality management systems in line with ISO 15189
- To assist in ensuring effective safety procedures are in place and assist in accident prevention and management
- To promote excellent hygiene standards in the workplace
- To undertake other duties appropriate to the role as assigned by an officer designated by the board.
- Statutory Registration: Candidates must be registered or eligible for registration on the Medical Scientists Register maintained by CORU.
- Professional Qualifications: Applicants must possess the requisite knowledge and ability for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.
- Character Requirements: Candidates must be of good character and have a reasonable prospect of being able to render regular and efficient service.
- Health Requirements: Candidates must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office.
