Electrical Engineer Job Overview

As an Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for preparing engineering drawings, creating panel schematic drawings and designing protection and control schemes for high voltage substations.

You will draft and review technical specifications for electrical equipment, carry out technical evaluations of supplier equipment proposals and produce clear and structured technical reports.

In addition, you will support project delivery teams through the design, construction and commissioning phases, and liaise with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary teams to ensure project requirements are met.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare engineering drawings including substation layouts, elevations and lightning protection zones.
  • Create panel schematic drawings and detailed design documentation.
  • Design protection and control schemes for HV substations.
  • Draft and review technical specifications for electrical equipment.
  • Carry out technical evaluations of supplier equipment proposals.
  • Produce clear and structured technical reports.
  • Support project delivery teams through the design, construction and commissioning phases.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary teams to ensure project requirements are met.

Requirements:

  • A degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with high voltage substation design from 10kV to 220kV.
  • Knowledge of ESB standards (preferred but not essential).
  • Proficiency in Eplan and AutoCAD 2D (preferred but not essential).
  • Strong understanding of electrical protection systems and control philosophies.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
