Senior Pharmaceutical Facility Designer

This position involves leading technical disciplines and overseeing day-to-day activities of assigned Architecture Group staff. The Lead Architect will work on various projects independently and may assist as a technical expert on specialized designs.

The role encompasses holistic facility design skills, including exterior facade design and interior layout development. Proficient use of computer-aided design (CAD) and building information modeling (BIM) processes is required, preferably with experience in Revit.

1. Assist in developing proposals to communicate project approaches and highlight expertise in life science industry facilities.
2. Collaborate with marketing to develop qualifications, project portfolios, and other marketing materials specific to the area of expertise.
3. Present conceptual ideas to clients during proposal presentations through client interactions or interviewing end-users.
4. Perform quality reviews for designs to ensure building and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) compliance within the specialty.
5. Develop preliminary write-ups based on client meetings and maintain support into the construction phase.
6. Empower team members to elevate their design capabilities through challenging assignments.
7. Facilitate relationship development with potential and existing clients.
8. Conduct project kick-offs and workshops to establish project drivers and design basis.
9. Collaborate with IPS disciplines.
10. Assess project requirements, break projects into tasks, and work with Project Managers to determine scope, budget, and staffing.
11. Research specialty equipment through vendor collaboration.
12. Manage clients and teams, focusing on design progression within agreed-upon schedules and budgets.
13. Write scopes of work for architectural design based on preliminary reviews and client meetings.
14. Assign and review work of project design teams, checking progress and alerting Project Managers to changes in scope or additional services.
15. Coordinate all aspects of preliminary design document completion within the company and externally with clients and other design professionals.
16. Provide support for specialty-related project specifications to ensure delivery with company quality standards.
17. Possess comprehensive knowledge of traditional building design with good understanding of how specialty expertise integrates with GMP cleanroom design.
18. Prepare or review construction budgets based on experience and project scope.
19. Promote and participate in development of company design and production standards.
20. Mentor, educate, and develop design staff and act as resource for design and industry questions.

• 10+ years of architectural design experience in designated specialty.
• +8 years of Life Sciences Industry experience required.
• Bachelor of Architecture degree from accredited University or College; registered architect membership preferred.
• Proven experience leading conceptual design efforts.
• Ability to interpret building program and generate varied design concepts (knowledge of building and zoning codes).
• Holistic facility design skills preferred (exterior facade design as well as interior layout development).
• Proficient use of CAD/BIM process (Revit experience preferred).
• Proven experience interacting and communicating directly with clients.
• Excellent time management skills and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
• Experience and knowledge of process, mechanical, structural, civil, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection system design and integration into architectural design.
