Electrical Engineer Position Overview

The role of an Electrical Engineer involves designing and developing electrical power transmission systems.

As part of a multidisciplinary team, the successful candidate will be responsible for working on delivering power transmission infrastructure that supports the UK's goal of achieving Net Zero in the energy system.

The selected individual will work on high-profile projects, including the design of overhead power line systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop detailed engineering designs and specifications using software tools such as PLS-CADD, AutoCAD, and MicroStation.
  • Conduct site surveys and assessments to gather data required for design purposes.
  • Perform technical calculations and analysis to ensure the structural integrity and electrical performance of overhead lines.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental guidelines.
  • Collaborate with project managers, construction teams, and other stakeholders to integrate design requirements into project plans.
  • Review and approve design modifications and provide technical support during construction.
  • Conduct quality assurance checks to ensure accuracy and completeness of designs.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or related engineering discipline.
  • Experience using PLS CADD/TOWER software.
  • Prior experience in overhead line engineering up to 400 kV.
  • Prior experience in upgrading projects, such as utilizing High Temperature Low Sag conductors.
  • Knowledge of conducting galloping studies, EMF and Field Effects Calculation, Wake effect, AC Interference would be beneficial.
  • Ability to travel to projects occasionally.
  • Chartered engineer status or working towards it would be advantageous.
  • National Grid BP141 OHL Authorisation would be preferred.
