Clinical Nurse Specialist Tissue Viability - Job Summary:

This position requires a skilled and knowledgeable professional to lead in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for tissue damage. The ideal candidate will have expertise in wound management and pressure ulcer prevention and treatment, with the ability to provide clinical leadership and advise multi-disciplinary teams on appropriate evidence-based treatment regimes.

The successful applicant will be responsible for providing expert knowledge, clinical skills, and advice on wound management and pressure ulcer prevention and treatment, as well as recommending and advising multi-disciplinary teams on appropriate evidence-based treatment regimes. They will also refer patients to appropriate members of the multidisciplinary team when necessary, clinically treat wounds requiring specialist knowledge and skills, and provide clinical leadership by advising and assisting with the assessment, planning, and evaluation of care on prevention and treatment of tissue damage.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert knowledge, clinical skills, and advice on wound management and pressure ulcer prevention and treatment
  • Recommend and advise multi-disciplinary teams on appropriate evidence-based treatment regimes
  • Refer patients to appropriate members of the multidisciplinary team when necessary
  • Clinically treat wounds requiring specialist knowledge and skills
  • Provide clinical leadership by advising and assisting with the assessment, planning, and evaluation of care on prevention and treatment of tissue damage

Requirements:

  • Degree in nursing or related field
  • Postgraduate qualification in wound management or related field
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in wound management or related field
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team

Audit & Research:

  • Use hospital resources to access applicable research to support evidence-based practice
  • Critically evaluate research findings to clinical practice via wound-care guidelines and pressure ulcer prevention policy
  • Identify and encourage research-based practice, policies, and standards in relation to tissue viability and quality and practice

Patient/Client Advocate:

  • Work as a strong patient advocate maintaining effective channels of communication with residents/patients, relatives, and all members of the multidisciplinary team
  • Review and assess referred patients taking into account their opinions and decisions
  • Communicate, negotiate, and represent the plan of care for the patient with clinical, nursing, and medical staff
