Senior Psychiatric Consultant - Mental Health Care for Older Adults
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Senior Psychiatric Consultant to join our team in Cork, Ireland. As a leading healthcare provider, we offer a unique opportunity to work with a diverse patient population, delivering high-quality mental health care to older adults.
This challenging role requires a Specialist Registration with the Irish Medical Council or eligibility for Specialist Registration, as well as 5-10 years of relevant post-graduation experience in Old Age Psychiatry. The ideal candidate will possess a detailed knowledge and understanding of the relevant specialist domain.
About the RoleThe Senior Psychiatric Consultant will be responsible for providing expert mental health care to patients aged 65 and above, working closely with other teams and Consultants to ensure coherent and high-quality care. This includes teaching, managing, coaching, and engaging in the practice and education of medical students, staff, and other allied health professionals.
The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with patients, families, and colleagues. A proven track record of professional development and ongoing training is also essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality mental health care to older adults, addressing complex needs such as dementia, schizophrenia, and mood disorders.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver patient-centered care, promoting holistic approaches to mental health.
- Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans, ensuring best practices and staying up-to-date with the latest research and guidelines.
- Mentor and support junior staff, promoting a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

- A basic salary scale between €233,527-€280,513, in accordance with the HSE 2023 Consultant contract.
