Senior Protection Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Protection Specialist to join our team.

  • This role involves working on the frontline of Ireland's transition to a net-zero future, providing technical protective services and supporting ESB's strategic objectives.

The successful candidate will have 5-6 years' experience in commissioning primary, secondary and associated equipment forming part of Transmission/Distribution Networks and ESB Power Stations. They will also have extensive knowledge of operational procedures and the operation of substations and/or power stations.

Responsibilities
  • Assess site safety prior to engaging in commissioning or maintenance activities.
  • Commission primary, secondary and associated equipment.
  • Maintain and test protection relays and circuits.
  • Verify protection scheme designs and compliance with approved standards.
  • Respond to critical system faults and provide specialist support to network & power station operators.
  • Carry out detailed fault investigations.
Requirements
  • A degree in a relevant field or equivalent work experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of transmission networks and protection philosophies.
  • Strong understanding of substation and power station operations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
