Carpenter Maintenance Specialist

Carpenter Chargehand Position Available

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the structural safety and appropriateness of the building for the provision of service user care and support activities.

• To report to the Facilities Manager

1. Manage a team of workers as chargehand
2. Deputise for Facilities Foreperson in their absence
3. Chair meetings with department staff
4. Demonstrate exceptional organisation skills to prioritise works and schedule upcoming tasks
5. Responsible for the overall maintenance relative to the role and requirements of the department and organisation
6. Ensure timely and appropriate actioning of all works as issued by Facilities Department
7. Undertake tasks generated by the Daily Work Order system and sign off when complete
8. Assist with carrying out weekly/monthly critical testing and log same
9. Mentor both skilled and unskilled staff
10. Manage and maintain building comfort levels by monitoring BMS system when required
11. Assist with the maintenance of the Hospital's Salto access and control systems
12. Assisting with emergency preparedness planning and practice
13. Assist with the upkeep of all signage throughout the Hospital
14. Coordinate the placement/assembly and maintenance of new and existing furniture around the Hospital campus
15. Manage and assist contractors on specific tasks as required
16. Ensure all meter readings are documented and recorded on a scheduled basis, whilst reviewing consumptions monitoring for excessive use
17. Partake in Legionella prevention programme and ensure associated PPMs are completed on schedule
18. Assist to ensure that the Department complies with all M.H.C. Standards
19. Participate in Facilities Department 'On Call Roster'
20. Operate all hospital vehicles when required
21. Ensure all vehicles are maintained in good working order
22. Be competent to work at heights using appropriate apparatus supplied by the hospital after required training is provided
23. Assist in ensuring a collaborative and transparent relationship exists between the Health & Safety Department and the Facilities Department by ensuring all Health & Safety requirements are met
24. Carry a designated phone and pager for communication purposes and enacting the appropriate response
25. Liaise with Facilities Foreman to issue fortnightly report to Facilities Manager / Assistant Facilities Manager on status of works
26. Be available to assist and coordinate staff and works during unforeseen emergencies such as adverse weather conditions to ensure a safe site for staff, service users and visitors
27. React and assist in Fire Alarm activation and any other unforeseen emergencies
28. Possess excellent communication skills to regularly inform the Management team on a regular basis on ongoing issues
29. Be willing to participate with all future technology developments relevant to the department
30. Be competent and willing to undertake basic plumbing and electrical tasks when required and assist with other department staffing shortfalls
31. Be presentable and wear hospital issued uniform and PPE
32. Ensure spare part stock levels are maintained and seek quotes as and when required
33. Be competent to carry out toolbox talks for contractors and department staff
34. Be competent to review RAMS before issuing to H&S department
35. Carry out toolbox checks to ensure issued tools are kept safe and maintained
36. Project manage minor works related to the facilities department
37. Maintain dignity and respect
38. Be available to work outside of normal hours as and when required to ensure the operational requirements of the organisation are maintained

• Must have completed at least 5 years' post Carpentry Apprenticeship
• Must have a multi skilled competency
• Experience managing a team is essential
• Previous experience in Health/ Hospitality desirable
• Must have a full clean driving licence
• Must have computer literacy skills
• Must be able to work on own initiative
• Must have a broad technical knowledge
• Must possess excellent problem-solving skills
• Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Must have a great attention to detail
• Must be well organised and have the ability to prioritise tasks

A competitive salary range of €48,388 - €51,093 per annum, plus allowances.
