
Marine Ecological Specialist

Key Responsibilities:
- We are seeking a professional to design, plan, and undertake field surveys (intertidal, subtidal, benthic, fisheries, and marine mammal monitoring) in marine ecosystems.
- The ideal candidate will be able to analyse ecological and environmental data, producing technical reports and GIS outputs that meet high standards.
- This role involves leading or contributing to Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), Appropriate Assessments (AA), and Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRA).
- The successful applicant will provide specialist input into marine planning, conservation, and policy-related projects, ensuring compliance with environmental legislation and best practice.
- A key aspect of this role is liaising with clients, regulators, and stakeholders to ensure the delivery of high-quality outputs on time.
- A degree in Marine Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline (MSc or PhD desirable).
- Minimum 3 years' professional experience in marine ecology or a related consultancy role.
- Strong knowledge of marine ecosystems, habitats, and species relevant to Ireland's waters.
- Proven experience in marine ecological survey methods and data analysis, including familiarity with Irish and EU environmental legislation.
- Excellent technical report writing and communication skills are essential for success in this role.
- A competency in GIS (ArcGIS/QGIS) and statistical analysis packages (e.g. R) is also required.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team is crucial.
