Research Opportunities in Coastal Conservation

We are seeking a highly motivated researcher to join our team and contribute to a project that aims to develop a quantitative, spatially explicit ecological risk assessment framework for development in Irish coastal waters. The successful candidate will work on a research award at NUI Galway, collaborating closely with the Marine Institute and the Socio-economic Marine Research Unit (SEMRU) at NUI Galway.

The framework is intended to demonstrate the use of systematic spatial planning conservation methodology as a decision support system for consent authorities. This project offers a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge research and contribute to the development of a sustainable approach to coastal management.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct research and analysis to develop a quantitative, spatially explicit ecological risk assessment framework
• Collaborate with researchers from NUI Galway and the Marine Institute to achieve project goals
• Work closely with the Socio-economic Marine Research Unit (SEMRU) to integrate socio-economic data into the risk assessment framework
• Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders and partners

Requirements

• PhD in a relevant field such as marine science, ecology, or environmental science
