Job Role Overview

 

  • Build positive relationships with children, parents and carers to create a supportive environment.
  • Provide daily care and supervision for children, encouraging them in activities like household tasks, cooking and personal care.
  • Promote healthy lifestyles and support young people's development through guidance and education.
  • Develop and implement personalized plans for young people's education and leisure activities.
  • Be sensitive to individual needs, respecting cultural, linguistic and religious diversity.
  • Maintain close communication with parents, teachers and other professionals to ensure the best outcomes for children.
Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate on assessments of young people's needs and develop effective care plans.
  • Support key workers in their roles and take on key worker responsibilities when necessary.
  • Participate in team meetings, core group discussions and other relevant gatherings.
  • Implement care and placement plans for each child in the home.
  • Keep detailed records of observations and assessments, adhering to statutory requirements and organizational policies.
Requirements
  • A third-level qualification in Applied Social Studies in Social Care or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a similar role is desirable.
  • Experience in caring for young persons is essential.
  • Strong report writing and support planning skills are required.
  • The ability to set and achieve goals independently is crucial.
  • Understanding of basic mental health issues, medical and social welfare systems, and related legislation is necessary.
  • A compassionate and empathetic approach is essential for success in this role.
