Working with individuals with intellectual disabilities requires a person-centred approach, focusing on empowering them to make informed choices and live a fulfilling life. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively as part of a team to provide supportive care, promote independence, and ensure a safe environment.
Key Responsibilities:- Advocacy & Rights: Individuals with intellectual disabilities have the right to autonomy, self-advocacy, and community involvement. The support role involves respecting individual choices and promoting their rights.
- Person Centred Support for Living: Ensuring daily living skills, social integration, and personal development are at the forefront of this support role. This includes fostering self-care skills, physical and personal care support, and health promotion.
- Skills Development: Fostering self-care skills is essential for individuals with intellectual disabilities. This includes supporting daily living skills, social integration, and personal development.
- Health & Appointments: Medical appointments, healthy diets, and honouring individual choices are crucial aspects of this support role. The candidate will attend medical appointments, ensure healthy diets, and respect individual decisions.
- Home & Community: Residents should be supported in participating in home environments and communities. This includes helping with transport duties, organisation of outings, and maintaining standards of the home and surroundings.
- Team & Records: Maintaining accurate records, reporting concerns, and adhering to service policies are essential responsibilities in this support role.
- Hold a minimum of QQI Level 5 Major Award or equivalent qualification in Social Care/Community Health.
- At least 1 year's experience working with vulnerable adults or adults with intellectual disabilities.
- Understanding of current policy and developments in social care within disability services.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills, proficient IT skills, and full driver's licence.
