
Specialist Mental Health Practitioner for Children and Adolescents

The role of a Child Psychiatrist is paramount in supporting the mental well-being of children and adolescents.
Key Responsibilities:- Conduct Comprehensive Assessments: Perform thorough evaluations of children and adolescents, including obtaining patient history, conducting interviews, and utilizing diagnostic tools to assess mental health conditions.
- Diagnosis and Treatment Planning: Diagnose a variety of psychiatric disorders in children and adolescents and develop treatment plans, which may include psychotherapy, counseling, and medication management.
- Medication Management and Therapy: Prescribe and monitor the use of psychiatric medications, ensuring proper dosage, effectiveness, and management of potential side effects. Provide individual, family, or group therapy to address emotional and behavioral issues.
- Collaboration with Healthcare Professionals: Work closely with other healthcare providers, including pediatricians, psychologists, social workers, and educators, to ensure a comprehensive approach to treatment.
- Families Support and Education: Guide parents and caregivers on managing their child's mental health and behavior, providing education about psychiatric conditions, treatment options, and coping strategies.
- Crisis Intervention and Emergency Care: Provide emergency psychiatric care when necessary, addressing critical situations involving self-harm, suicidal thoughts, or severe behavioral problems.
- Continuing Education and Professional Development: Stay up to date with current research, best practices, and advancements in child psychiatry, participating in continuing education and professional development.
The ideal candidate will have specialization in psychiatry and completion of a residency program in child and adolescent psychiatry, as well as licensure to practice psychiatry in Ireland.
