Part-Time Academic Oral Surgeon

The Dublin Dental University Hospital is seeking to recruit a part-time academic oral surgeon. The successful applicant will contribute to education in the undergraduate curricula in the School of Dental Science and the Dublin Dental University Hospital.

A three-year taught doctoral programme in Oral Surgery is well established, and the successful applicant's main duties will be to support and contribute to the organisation and delivery of this programme, including research.

The clinical responsibilities will be confined to the scope of practice of an academic oral surgeon and will include the management of patients requiring secondary and tertiary care in the area of Oral Surgery (OS) and other patient cohorts as directed.

Applicants must have substantial teaching experience at university level, including the clinical supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students in oral surgery.

Registration with the Dental Council and necessary qualifications for a consultant in Oral Surgery are required.

Key Responsibilities:

• To provide clinical and educational leadership in Oral Surgery.
• To develop and manage the education/training and research area of Oral Surgery.
• To provide a consultant service for the care of people who come within the remit of the specialty.
• To work jointly with key stakeholders in the HSE to scope and deliver appropriate education/training and research in the area of Oral Surgery.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Substantial teaching experience at university level, including clinical supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students in oral surgery.
• Registration with the Dental Council and necessary qualifications for a consultant in Oral Surgery.
• A PhD or equivalent in a relevant area.
• Relevant experience and leadership in the design, delivery, and management of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
• A proven track record and evidence of a sustained interest in research (senior authorship on peer-reviewed publications) and independent research accomplishments in publications and awards.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, especially within working teams.

A major role is joint working with key stakeholders in the HSE, in particular service providers and other agencies to scope and deliver appropriate education/training and research in the area of Oral Surgery.

The post holder will interact with a range of surgical, medical, and dental specialists at the DDUH, Trinity College Dublin, School of Medicine, and the Trinity St James's Cancer Institute in developing and delivering internationally recognised educational programmes, translational research, and clinical leadership that address the needs of patients.

As such, they will take cognisance of national and European regulations, guidelines, and local service needs.
