Job Overview: Ornua is a leading Irish dairy co-operative that markets and sells dairy products on behalf of its Members. As a key player in the industry, we strive to deliver high-quality products that meet our customers' needs.

The Role: We are seeking a highly skilled Specification Technologist to join our team. This role will involve working with Quality Managers and stakeholders to ensure all products have accurate specifications on our system. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in technical food science and experience with specification systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Initiate all specifications for cheese, butter, powder, and diversified products in conjunction with key stakeholders.
  • Manage and coordinate approval, reviews, and re-approval of specifications with key stakeholders and product suppliers.
  • Review and approve product unit and case artwork using in-house packaging system, ESKO.
  • In conjunction with regulatory and innovation departments, ensure specifications and artwork comply with legislation and customer requirements.
  • Manage the timely movement of approved specifications from the specification system to ERP system.
  • Complete administration activities for the specification management system, including maintaining Standard Operating Procedures and work instructions.
  • Work with stakeholders to resolve any specification management system IT issues.
  • Continuously look for ways to streamline and improve processes.
  • Implement updates to specification systems and procedures, ensuring users are trained.
  • Participate in projects involving innovation, new product development, and product launches.
  • Take the lead in customer and regulatory audits on Specification Management.
  • Support the Technical Support team as required.
  • Represent Ornua to the highest level in interactions with members, suppliers, and customers.

Requirements:

  • A third-level qualification in a technical food or food science discipline.
  • At least 2 years' relevant experience within the dairy/food industry.
  • Experience with interpreting and applying labelling legislation and major retailers' labelling requirements.
  • Working knowledge of food regulations and UK/EU food labelling legislation.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organisational, and administrative skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Methodical and highly organised with ability to multi-task.
  • Flexible and committed attitude with the ability to display initiative.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and part of a team, driving continuous improvement.
  • Strong Word, Excel, and database skills.
  • Willingness to travel in Ireland and abroad as required.
