Key Role: Department Leader

We are seeking a skilled Department Leader to support and lead a department and a team of individuals. This role involves ensuring the best possible shopping experience for our customers.

The successful candidate will have responsibility for supporting and leading their team, reporting to the Deputy Manager. They will be responsible for maintaining a welcoming environment for colleagues and customers alike.

  • Create an inspiring and supportive work environment for the team
  • Be accountable for the store when the Store Manager/Deputy Manager is not present
  • Ensure the team has the necessary training and skills to perform their roles
  • Foster a culture of open communication and trust within the team
  • Coach and manage team members to enable them to deliver their daily tasks effectively
  • Review reports and systems to identify areas for improvement and implement changes to benefit customers and colleagues
  • Drive initiatives to reduce food waste, manage date codes, and ensure no food suitable for human consumption is discarded
  • Recruit high-performing team members who share our values
  • Understand cleaning specifications for the store and ensure the plan is delivered by the team
  • Manage stock control activities, warehouse layout, and processes to guarantee tasks are completed correctly first time
  • Analyze any incorrect prices, overcharges, refunds, and label routines to ensure accurate pricing for customers
  • Minimize customer queues by optimizing the front-end operation
  • Recognize outstanding service and provide constructive feedback as needed

About You

  • Demonstrated track record of delivering successful outcomes for customers and colleagues
  • Ability to adapt quickly in fast-paced environments
  • Prior retail experience in a similar role is desirable
  • Skill to influence at senior levels and shape key decisions
