Research Opportunity in Distributed Knowledge Processing

We are seeking highly motivated and qualified candidates for two PhD positions in the field of distributed knowledge processing. The successful applicants will have the opportunity to contribute to principled Bayesian solutions in this area and receive research training that will equip them to be industry and/or academic leaders in statistical signal processing and machine learning.

Job Description:

  • The research projects will advance key agendas in wireless sensor networks, focusing on optimal cooperation between sensors and agents as they share data and knowledge, and ultimately support autonomous decision-making.
  • The successful candidates will develop statistical signal processing and machine learning methods to address fundamental questions about how distributed knowledge can optimally be processed into decisions, and about the performance guarantees that can be formulated.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Excellent academic track record to level 9 (masters) in a discipline with some foundations in probability, statistics, systems, and/or computation.
  • Excellent skills in English communication, research aptitude, and a collaborative spirit.
  • Strong commitment to full-time PhD research for three years in Prague and Dublin.

Benefits:

  • Registration for the PhD degree in either Charles University or Czech Technical University under the supervision of Professor Quinn at UTIA.
  • Funding from the Czech research funding agency, GAČR, of between CZK 10,000-20,000 per month (commensurate with qualifications), for three years.
  • Support for regular attendance at international conferences to present published and peer-reviewed research, and to ensure computing and material requirements are met.

What We Offer:

The opportunity to work on cutting-edge research projects, develop your skills and expertise, and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in your field. You will also have access to state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, and the chance to collaborate with leading researchers in the field.

How to Apply:

  • Preliminary enquiries should be directed to Professor Quinn.
  • Formal application comprises a full CV, including academic transcript, examples of peer-reviewed or examined research outputs, a list of three referees, and a statement of purpose (maximum two pages).
