We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Health and Safety Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the well-being of employees and maintaining a safe working environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Familiarize yourself with relevant health and safety legislation and regulations.
- Identify hazards and assess risks on site, taking necessary steps to mitigate them.
- Communicate health and safety requirements to managers, supervisors, and workers on site.
Site-Specific Duties:
- Conduct weekly site inspections to monitor compliance with health and safety protocols.
- Supervise contractors from appointment through training and ongoing supervision.
- Perform risk assessments for all aspects of work, requiring constant monitoring, supervision, updating, and implementation.
- Review systems onsite for traffic management, lifting operations, and other critical areas.
Candidate Requirements:
- Hold a comprehensive knowledge of hazards associated with construction work and understand how to control them.
- Be familiar with ISO 45001:2018 and have experience in construction and general health and safety management systems.
- Be computer-literate and possess necessary IT skills to carry out duties.
- Possess high levels of interpersonal and communication skills.
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
- Hold a Level 7 qualification (National Framework of Qualifications) in Occupational Health and Safety as an essential minimum requirement.
- Have no less than 3 years of satisfactory experience in construction work, including knowledge of construction methods, site management, and design process.
- Hold a current Safe Pass Card and valid driving license.
- Use own transport for work-related purposes.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Assist in implementing, managing, and maintaining the Integrated Management System (IMS).
- Develop an inspection program to ensure regular site visits and conduct inspections.
- Liaise with the Engineering Team onsite and report findings at meetings.
- Maintain the Register of Health & Safety Legislation as part of the IMS coordinator.
- Undertake risk assessments and coordinate emergency procedures.
- Develop, prepare, and organize the annual Health and Safety Training Programme.
- Ensure the Training Database is maintained and up-to-date.
- Control and manage the Project Risk Assessment and Safety Plan Database.
- Ensure all relevant registers are in place and maintained within the Southwest Region.
