Lead Consultant in Emergency Medicine

We are seeking an experienced Lead Consultant to join our multidisciplinary team within the public healthcare system. The successful candidate will provide expert clinical leadership and deliver high-quality emergency care to a diverse patient population.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Provide consultant-level care in Emergency Medicine, including triage, diagnosis, treatment, and referral of acute and urgent medical conditions.
  • Supervise and lead the Emergency Department (ED) clinical team, comprising registrars, SHOs, nurses, and allied health professionals.
  • Ensure timely, patient-centered care in compliance with relevant policies and regulations.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, audit activities, and risk management strategies.
  • Participate in on-call duties and rota management as required by the department.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for junior doctors, medical students, and ED staff.
  • Pursue continuing professional development opportunities and contribute to academic or research activities.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
  • Specialist Registration with the Irish Medical Council in the specialty of Emergency Medicine.
  • Eligible for appointment under the HSE Consultant Contract 2023.
  • A minimum of 7 years postgraduate experience, including significant time spent in Emergency Medicine.
  • Demonstrated clinical leadership and team management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Strong commitment to patient safety, clinical governance, and continuous improvement.
