The NCHD's Role

  • As a member of a multi-disciplinary team, provide medical care to patients.
  • Diagnose and treat patients in accordance with consultant direction.
  • Prioritise patient safety and well-being in all duties.
  • Assess patients on admission and discharge, documenting detailed reports in case notes.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests, initiate treatment as required.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and colleagues.
  • Further develop knowledge of diagnosis and management through research and training.
  • Participate in clinical audit and risk management initiatives.
  • Co-operate with measures to ensure compliance with European Working Time Directive and related Irish legislation.
  • Respond to investigations and enquiries regarding healthcare services.
  • Comply with statutory requirements, corporate policies, and human resource guidelines.
  • Attend induction training before employment commencement and during the employment period.
