Senior Project Ecologist Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Project Ecologist to join our team. The successful candidate will have a strong background in ecology and a minimum of five years postgraduate experience.

The role will involve managing individual contracts to deliver high-quality ecological consultancy services, providing expert ecological input for projects, planning and conducting site ecological surveys and fieldwork, and preparing and monitoring the implementation of Construction Environmental Management Plans.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage individual contracts to deliver high-quality ecological consultancy services;
  • Provide expert ecological input for projects;
  • Plan and conduct site ecological surveys and fieldwork;
  • Prepare and monitor the implementation of Construction Environmental Management Plans;
  • Undertake Appropriate Assessments and Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs), Biodiversity Chapters for Environmental Impact Assessment Reports (EIARs), and other environmental reporting requirements;
  • Write technical reports and other deliverables;
  • Manage quality, including attention to detail and accuracy, delivery of contracts on time, and strive to improve the quality of work produced by the Ecology Team;
  • Provide expert witness at Oral Hearings;
  • Develop excellent relationships with clients and attend meetings with clients and design teams when necessary.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Degree in ecology or related subject;
  • Minimum of five years postgraduate experience;
  • Consultancy experience desirable;
  • Member of CIEEM, CIWEM, or equivalent professional body;
  • Detailed knowledge of wildlife and conservation legislation within Ireland;
  • Excellent technical report writing skills;
  • Experience in preparing Appropriate Assessments and Ecological Impact Assessments;
  • Experience in working in multi-disciplinary teams;
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and project management skills.
