Senior Consultant, Property Fund Accounting

Role/ Department:
The Real Estate and Infrastructure (REIF) Team at Northern Trust is renowned for its expertise in Fund Administration services to the Irish Real Estate market. This role presents an exceptional opportunity to develop knowledge and experience in a dynamic client environment and work closely with niche asset managers.

Fund Accounting & overall Accounting

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of Fund Accounting requirements for Property Funds.
  • Collate relevant information to facilitate production of NAVs.
  • Ensure accurate and timely issuance of NAVs.
  • Liaise with new clients to determine fund structure and level of detail required to support striking of NAV.
  • Establish effective communication channels with clients and external auditors to address audit queries.
  • Maintain agreed client service levels and regulatory filing deadlines.
  • Prepare interim and annual financial statements for Property Funds, including consolidated financial statements for complex cross-border structures.

Client Centric

  • Promote effective communication with clients, investors, and associated parties on fund activities.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the purpose and critical background knowledge of Funds assigned to the team.
  • Stay abreast of current market trends and industry developments in the REIF's sector.
  • Liaise with internal departments such as Trustee, Legal, Transfer Agency, and Company Secretarial.

Purchase and Sale of Property Investments

  • Understand the intricacies of property transactions.
  • Appreciate the process and necessary approvals.
  • Coordinate the approval process.
  • Maintain documentation and records.

Knowledge:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential.
  • A professional accountancy qualification is mandatory.
  • In-depth Functional / Industry Knowledge is advantageous.
  • Technical skills / systems knowledge (e.g. Yardi) is highly desirable.
  • Detailed knowledge of Irish/UK GAAP and IFRS.
  • A working knowledge of the Irish regulatory /tax regime as it relates to Fund Accounting.
  • A strong appreciation of accounting principles and standards.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to quickly gain knowledge of Property Fund Administration.
  • Demonstrates understanding of the need for high-touch client service.
  • Ability to participate in systems development projects.
  • Demonstrates commitment to producing high-quality work and meeting timeframes.
  • Excellent knowledge of Excel.
