Estimator (Construction)

The role of an Estimator is pivotal in the construction industry, responsible for analyzing project specifications and tender documents to prepare accurate cost estimates.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze technical drawings, specifications, and tender documents to identify project requirements.
  • Prepare comprehensive cost estimates, including labor, materials, plant, and subcontractor packages.
  • Manage and submit tenders to agreed deadlines, ensuring timely delivery and quality.
  • Assess project risks and opportunities from a cost perspective, providing expert advice to stakeholders.
  • Source, evaluate, and negotiate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors, fostering strong relationships and securing competitive rates.
  • Collaborate with Commercial and Project Management teams to ensure estimates and cost plans are aligned.
  • Attend meetings with clients, consultants, and design teams as required, promoting effective communication and project success.
  • Contribute to value engineering exercises, proposing innovative construction solutions that optimize costs and benefits.
  • Prepare clear project handover documentation, ensuring seamless transitions and minimizing risk.
  • Provide cost and procurement guidance to project teams during early stages, facilitating informed decision-making.

Requirements:

  • Degree or diploma in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience working as an Estimator in the construction industry, ideally on commercial projects.
  • Advanced analytical and numerical skills, combined with excellent attention to detail.
  • Experience using estimating software and Microsoft Excel/COINS.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to work effectively in a busy team environment.
