Unlocking the Secrets of Planetary Magnetospheres and Habitable Moons

The search for life beyond Earth has led to a fascinating area of research: planetary magnetospheres and habitable moons. As a PhD candidate in this field, you will be part of an exciting project focused on improving spacecraft observation analysis methods to maximize scientific outcomes from missions exploring these celestial bodies.

In this role, you will work closely with a team of experts to enhance spacecraft observation analysis techniques for planetary magnetosphere research. You will investigate the interaction between spacecraft and their environment, particularly particle and field observations. The research will focus on Jupiter's moons, including Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto, and their potential for hosting alien life forms.

This 4-year full-time position is funded by an SFI-IRC Pathways grant, providing a tax-free stipend corresponding to the current SFI's PhD level. As a member of the global space plasma science community, you will contribute to collaborative projects with industry partners and have opportunities to attend major space physics conferences and visit collaborators across Europe, the United States, and Asia.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor or master degree in physics, space physics, computer science, or a closely related field
  • Good command of English
  • Advantageous experiences include spacecraft plasma and fields data analysis, modeling, and programming in Python
