The Quantity Surveyor is accountable for managing project costs, ensuring effective control and adherence to contracting principles. This role provides vital support to the Claims, Contract Management, and Project Management teams, driving the achievement of project goals and objectives.
- Undertaking or reviewing measurements, developing schedules of rates or Bills of Quantities;
- Providing assessments of on-site materials and monthly payments;
- Monitoring final project costs, recommending monthly payments, and ensuring contractual entitlement;
This position involves supporting the development of cost control standards, monitoring compliance, and notifying programme directors and project managers of any issues. Additionally, this role entails developing cost management strategies, reviewing proposed contractor Key Performance Indicators, and overseeing variations and cash flow forecasting.
Key responsibilities include advising the Risk team on financial impacts, monitoring anticipated final costs, and providing a route for escalation. The Quantity Surveyor will also support contractor claims, ensure optimum value for money, and develop processes for timely and accurate cost reporting.
Requirements7+ years' experience in a comparable consultancy environment or client/contractor organisation is required. A clear understanding of construction contract commercial documents, drawings, and specifications is essential, along with strong experience in delivering complex infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge of cost management principles, methods, techniques, and tools, including the Standard Method of Measurement;
- Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team, ensuring timely and accurate cost management tasks;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong analytical ability, and a high level of commercial and financial awareness;
- Previous experience in managing internal resources and mentoring junior staff members is also beneficial.
