Geotechnical Engineer Job Description

We have an opportunity for a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to work on preliminary and detailed designs for various projects. As part of our team, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing and checking engineering designs, technical documents, and calculations
  • Supervising the production of design documents for issue to clients
  • Coordinating a team of engineers and technicians and developing their technical skills
  • Assisting junior engineers in your team with their progression to Chartered status
  • Organising and coordinating projects from feasibility to detailed design, including site supervision where required

You will also be responsible for overseeing development of conceptual designs, project controls, and monitoring progress against programmes. Additionally, you will ensure that designs, assessments, and checking of designs are in accordance with current design standards, codes of practice, and best practice.

Requirements
  • MSc or MEng in Engineering Geology or Civil Engineering (with significant Geotechnical ability and experience)
  • Chartered status, with CGeol or CEng (or equivalent)
  • Experience working in a design environment, with some site experience preferred
  • Advanced numerical modelling skills using 3D Plaxis or similar
  • Working knowledge of geotechnical software, including Geo Studio suite
  • Good knowledge of statutory processes and technical standards
  • Significant experience in the rail or tunnelling and infrastructure sectors
  • Sound understanding of CDM Regulations
  • Broad capability in geotechnical design
  • Ability to organise your own time and others
  • Good communication skills, both verbally and in writing
