The role of Principal Software Engineer encompasses designing and building Integration solutions based on industry best practices.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies on a digital transformation program, collaborating with our Engineering Team.

As a key member, you will contribute to the development of organisational systems integration and build capabilities, including automation and continuous integration.

Our team expects Principal Software Engineers to display leadership qualities and enthusiasm for taking on new problems across the business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design large or complex software applications, components, and modules.
  • Undertake impact analysis on major design options, make recommendations, and assess associated risks.
  • Evaluate software designs to ensure adherence to standards.
  • Specify prototypes/simulations to enable informed decision-making.
  • Design large or complex systems.
  • Review systems designs and apply appropriate methods and techniques effectively.
  • Contribute to system design policies, standards, and architecture component selection.
  • Plan and drive activities to develop organisational systems integration and build capabilities.
  • Take technical responsibility across all stages of software development.
  • Ensure that all requests for support are dealt with according to set standards and procedures.
  • Advise on application security, licensing, upgrades, backups, and disaster recovery needs.
  • Provide expertise and guidance to promote adoption of methods and tools.
  • Implement methods and tools at programme, project, and team levels.
  • Line management of engineers, monitoring performance and working relationships.
  • Identify, evaluate, and manage the adoption of appropriate tools, techniques, and processes.
  • Establish measurement objectives and scope for functions, teams, and projects.
  • Promote collaborative technologies, processes, and behaviours.
  • Determine development needs for a professional practice area.
  • Form, maintain, and lead workgroups and individuals to achieve organisational objectives.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • 10+ years enterprise experience.
  • 10+ years software development experience covering the full development lifecycle.

Desirable Skills:

  • Expert knowledge of Java, Spring, and Restful APIs.
  • Unit testing frameworks (JUnit 5) and CI/CD practices.
  • Experience with event-driven architectures and integration patterns.
  • Strong understanding of OOD and design patterns.
  • Proven track record working with architecture teams to design complex systems.
  • Experience supporting technical teams delivering enterprise-grade software.
  • Driving technical excellence and contributing to corporate IT strategies.
