Electrical Engineering Officer Role

The Naval Service is seeking suitably qualified Electrical Engineers to join its team as direct entry Electrical Engineering Officers. This role offers a unique opportunity for individuals to develop their skills and knowledge in a challenging and dynamic environment.

About the Role:

  • Design, procure, install and maintain various systems within the Naval Service fleet, including power generation and distribution, navigation systems, communication systems, weapons systems, environmental systems and IT infrastructure maintenance.
  • During sea postings, Electrical Engineering Officers will be critical members of the ship's engineering department, responsible for electrical, electronic and control systems governing vessel manoeuvrability, defence and intelligence gathering.
  • Leadership is a core competency of this role, with the Naval College providing grounding to ensure individual officers are competent and capable of carrying out assigned military roles and responsibilities.
  • ELOs may serve in appointments onboard ships, ashore and potentially overseas, with opportunities for career progression and professional development.

Essential Requirements:

  • Citizenship of the Irish State or legal entitlement to reside and work in Ireland.
  • Good character and satisfaction of security clearance requirements.
  • Minimum standards of medical and physical fitness.
  • Age less than 50 years on 31 December in the year of application.
  • Recognised Bachelor Degree (Honours) at level 8 or higher in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or equivalent qualification.
