Residential Support Worker: Mallow, Cork

This role involves providing a range of services to individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities and/or autism in a residential setting. The support is centered around the individual's goals and needs.

A key aspect of this position is promoting community inclusion and equal citizenship for service users. The successful candidate will have experience working in a healthcare setting and hold a relevant qualification such as QQI Level 5 in Health or Social Care.

The ideal candidate will possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, be able to work on their own initiative and as part of a team, and be comfortable using essential information technology to provide reports.

This is a challenging yet rewarding role that requires a flexible approach to working hours. The shifts can be 12 hours long, ranging from 8 am to 8 pm and 8 pm to 8 am. A mixture of working hours are available and can be agreed at job offer stage.


Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Permission to work in Ireland.
  • One year of experience in a Healthcare setting.
  • A QQI Level 5 qualification in Health or Social Care or equivalent for a Support Worker role
  • Other relevant qualifications (e.g., Nursing, Addiction Studies, Teaching, Accredited Youth Training, Psychology) may be considered.
  • Full clean driver's license

Main Duties / Responsibilities:
  1. Support service users with an intellectual/physical disability, autism.
  2. Help service users understand their environment, learn new skills and maximise independence.
  3. Assist individuals with daily living activities and health and well-being, including personal care and continence when required.
  4. Support individuals to live a meaningful life with a priority on equal citizenship.
  5. Facilitate participation and integration into the community.
  6. Act as an advocate for clients/residents and involve them in care/placement planning.
  7. Accompany service users to appointments and events as required.
  8. Assist service users with reduced mobility.
  9. Undertake duties as assigned to support care of service users.
  10. Manage challenging behaviours using a positive behaviour support plan.
  11. Provide reports on client activities to management.
  12. Attend staff meetings and contribute to care plan development and implementation.
