Counsellor therapists play a vital role in delivering counselling services to individuals in primary care settings.
This service, known as Counselling in Primary Care (CIPC), is delivered by professionally qualified counsellors, psychotherapists, and psychologists under the governance of directors responsible for counselling services.
Essential Qualifications and Experience- A recognised Level 7 qualification in a relevant human science discipline or equivalent in a health and social care profession or health-related profession is required.
- Applicants must hold either a degree or post-graduate qualification in counselling, psychotherapy, or have full accredited membership with the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) or a relevant body within the Irish Council for Psychotherapy (ICP).
- Alternatively, applicants may hold a post-graduate qualification in counselling psychology or clinical psychology recognised by the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI) and be registered with the clinical or counselling psychology division of PSI.
A minimum of two years' experience in counselling is essential, although this requirement may not apply in respect of some full-time post-graduate qualifications. A selection process will also be applied.
