Senior Backend Engineer Position

We're seeking a highly skilled senior backend engineer to join our fast-paced engineering team. This role involves combining hands-on development with technical leadership, guiding teams and delivering features that operate at real-world scale.



The Opportunity

This is a senior technical role where you'll be responsible for building and evolving distributed backend services in a modern cloud ecosystem. You will work with high-scale data, event-driven systems, and complex integrations.



Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead by example - writing production code, setting technical standards, and mentoring engineers.
  • Collaborate with Product and Design to take ideas from concept through to delivery.
  • Influence the technical direction of the platform while improving how the team delivers.


Tech Environment

Our tech environment includes:

  • Languages/Frameworks: Python (open to Go, Java, Scala, C#, Type Script etc.)
  • Cloud & Infra: AWS, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, containerisation
  • Data & Messaging: Kafka, Kinesis, Postgre SQL, Dynamo DB, Graph QL/REST
  • Patters: Event-driven architecture, high-scale data processing, service-oriented systems


Requirements and Qualifications

We are looking for an experienced candidate with:

  • 8+ years' experience building production-grade software at scale.
  • Strong background in backend development with modern OO languages.
  • Experience designing for scale, resilience, and performance.
  • Practical knowledge of event-driven and distributed architectures.
  • Familiarity with observability, monitoring, and CI/CD.
  • Ability to mentor, coach, and raise engineering standards.
