Role Overview

The Instrumentation Apprenticeship offers a unique blend of theoretical knowledge and practical skills, providing apprentices with the opportunity to develop expertise in measurement and control equipment installation, maintenance, and calibration.

During the apprenticeship, individuals will have the chance to install, maintain, and calibrate process measurement and control equipment, as well as protection and safety shut-down systems. They will also work on first-up systems, analytical instrumentation, telemetry, weighing systems, vibration monitoring, data, and Scada systems, and information gathering and logging systems.

Apprentices will be responsible for keeping accurate records of all calibrations for reports and working with electricity and electronics. Mathematics will play a crucial role in solving technical or scientific problems, and individuals will have the opportunity to work on machines and processes.

The apprenticeship is designed to equip individuals with strong problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and effective communication skills. A background in science is preferred, but not required. Strong mathematics understanding and flexibility to relocate to different site locations during the apprenticeship are essential requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Install, maintain, and calibrate process measurement and control equipment.
  • Install and maintain protection and safety shut-down systems in the process industry.
  • Install and maintain first-up systems; shut down systems; analytical instrumentation; telemetry; weighing systems; vibration monitoring; data and Scada systems and information gathering and logging systems.
  • Keep accurate records of all calibrations for reports.
  • Work with electricity and electronics.
  • Use mathematics to solve technical or scientific problems.
  • Work on machines and processes.
Requirements
  • Strong understanding of Mathematics.
  • A background in science (preferred).
  • Flexibility to relocate to different site locations during the apprenticeship.
  • Eagerness and willingness to learn.
  • Good communication skills.
  • A positive and proactive attitude.
  • Strong awareness of Health and Safety practices.
  • Ability to think critically and solve problems.
Breakdown Of Apprenticeship Phases
  • On-The-Job with Employer
    • Phase 1 – Minimum 12 months.
    • Phase 3 – Minimum 6 months.
    • Phase 5 – Minimum 6 months.
    • Phase 7 – Minimum 3 months.
  • Off-The-Job In Training Facility
    • Phase 2 – 22 weeks.
    • Phase 4 – 10 weeks.
    • Phase 6 – 10 weeks.
Education / Licenses / Certifications
  • Minimum a pass grade in all subjects in the Leaving Certificate (or equivalent).
  • Proof of education, licenses, and certifications will be required where applicable.
