Lead Data Scientist

Job Overview:

As a seasoned Lead Data Scientist, you will spearhead our efforts in developing and implementing data-driven solutions to combat fraud and loss. Your expertise will be pivotal in driving business growth while ensuring the highest level of customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Portfolio Ownership: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to manage and optimize portfolios for assigned product lines or markets.
  • Strategy Development: Design and implement innovative fraud-prevention strategies that balance transaction declines with customer friction.
  • Model Lifecycle Management: Oversee the development, training, and validation of machine learning models using cloud-native platforms like BigQuery and Snowflake.
  • Stakeholder Alignment: Foster strong relationships with Business Units, Risk Operations, and Compliance to ensure models and business rules align with evolving policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Performance Monitoring: Track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as model drift, false-positive/false-negative rates, and lead root-cause analyses for any anomalies or spikes in loss.

Requirements:

  • 8+ years of relevant experience working with large-scale datasets, including at least 3 years managing a team of 3-6 Data Scientists in a fraud-risk or financial-services environment.
  • Proven ability to break down complex business requirements into actionable analytic plans and deliver data-driven recommendations.
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL and Python (or R) for data wrangling, exploratory data analysis, and model development.
  • Expertise in preparing clean, structured datasets for modeling and applying supervised and unsupervised learning techniques (regression, classification, clustering, decision trees, anomaly detection).
  • Familiarity with production ML frameworks (scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch) and cloud data platforms (BigQuery, Snowflake).
  • Deep understanding of fraud-risk principles, including AML/KYC, regulatory compliance, and performance metrics (Precision, Recall, ROC-AUC).
  • Strong track record of partnering with engineers, product managers, and business leaders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to distill complex findings into clear narratives for both technical and non-technical audiences.
