Trading Underwriter Role Overview

We are seeking a Trading Underwriter to join our team within a dynamic and fast-paced insurance environment. This role involves evaluating risks and exposures for new business, mid-term adjustments, and renewals. The successful candidate will focus on quoting, converting, and retaining business across a range of specialist home insurance products while delivering excellent service to broker partners.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Underwrite business in line with internal underwriting guidelines and within delegated authority levels
  • Trade effectively with brokers to maximize conversion and retention
  • Provide regular reporting to the Line Manager
  • Manage and control renewals, new business, and existing business tasks
  • Handle underwriting referrals from other team members or offices when required
  • Support and drive key performance targets, including income, conversion, and retention
  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of both new and existing insurance products
  • Respond promptly and professionally to enquiries from brokers, insurers, and third parties
  • Ensure that underwriting decisions are aligned with the best interests of capacity providers

Required Skills and Qualifications:

The ideal candidate should possess a minimum Leaving Certificate standard and hold an APA qualification in insurance (CIP preferred). A strong background in household underwriting, preferably within an MGA, insurance company, or Lloyd's syndicate, is highly advantageous. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as strong sales, negotiation, analytical, and IT skills are essential.
