Automation Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Automation Engineer with strong Allen-Bradley PLC expertise to support a leading Medical Device client in Cork. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge systems in a highly regulated manufacturing environment, with excellent scope for career development and long-term progression.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the programming, testing, and commissioning of Allen-Bradley PLC systems (ControlLogix, CompactLogix).
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve automation and control issues, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum reliability.
  • Integrate PLCs with HMI/SCADA platforms and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Maintain and update all technical documentation, including system configurations, code annotations, and schematics.
  • Support system upgrades, validation, and compliance activities in line with regulatory standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, safety, and reliability.
  • Provide technical input and mentorship to junior engineers or technicians as required.
Requirements:
  • Degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Controls, or related field.
  • 4–5 years' experience as an Automation Engineer in a manufacturing environment (medical device or pharma preferred).
  • Proven experience with Allen-Bradley platforms (Studio 5000, RSLogix 5000) and HMI/SCADA integration.
  • Good knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, or ControlNet.
  • Understanding of validation, compliance, and data integrity within regulated industries.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
