Job Title: Occupational Therapist

An Occupational Therapist is required to work in a busy acute hospital, providing a wide range of services including emergency care, medical and surgical specialties, paediatrics, and maternity.

The Occupational Therapy Department plays a key role in patient recovery, functional rehabilitation, and safe discharge planning. The ideal candidate will have excellent clinical knowledge and reasoning skills relevant to acute care.

Responsibilities:
  • Undertake comprehensive functional assessments of patients referred from medical, surgical, orthopaedic, and other wards.
  • Deliver individualised, evidence-based interventions to support activities of daily living (ADLs), mobility, cognition, and environmental adaptation.
  • Liaise with patients, families, and community teams to ensure effective discharge planning and continuity of care.
  • Contribute to multi-disciplinary ward rounds, team meetings, and case conferences.
  • Provide timely and accurate documentation in line with HSE policy.
  • Participate in service development, audits, and quality improvement initiatives within the department.
  • Maintain CPD and participate in supervision, peer review, and team learning sessions.
Requirements:
  • Hold a recognised qualification in Occupational Therapy approved by CORU.
  • Be registered (or eligible for registration) with CORU as an Occupational Therapist.
Desirable Criteria:
  • Experience in acute hospital settings or post-acute rehabilitation.
  • Knowledge of manual handling, equipment prescription, and home assessments.
