Childcare Professional Job Description

The ideal candidate will be caring, empathetic and able to establish strong relationships with children and their families. They will also possess excellent communication skills and be able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop close working relationships with children, parents/carers and other professionals to ensure the best possible outcomes for young people.
  • Assist in the day-to-day care and supervision of children, including engaging them in activities such as housework, maintenance of clothing, cooking and personal care.
  • Supervise and purchase clothing for children, care for furnishings and household equipment, and undertake household and domestic duties.
  • Accompany children on outings and other occasions, contributing to their development through promotion of a healthy lifestyle.
  • Facilitate personal education plans for young people and ensure recreational and leisure activities are organised.
  • Support young persons' development in both personal and social skills, being sensitive to their needs and taking account of race, culture, language and religion.
  • Initiate and maintain contact with parents/carers, teachers and other professional staff and agencies.
  • Establish and maintain contact with the local community, facilitating involvement of young people in outside activities.
  • Contribute to multi-disciplinary assessment of young peoples' needs and develop appropriate care plans.
  • Support key workers in their work with individual children and undertake key worker responsibilities where appropriate.
  • Participate in team meetings, core group meetings, care planning meetings and other meetings as required.
  • Implement care plan and placement plan for each child in the home.
  • Maintain accurate records, particularly those detailing observations and/or assessment of children.
  • Undertake duties in connection with receipt, recording and safe keeping of monies and valuables within the home.
